Horrific Turkish marriage guide tells women not to speak during sex and endorses violence
A TURKISH marriage guidance booklet has revealed a number of horrifying pieces of advice for newlyweds, including telling women not to talk during sex and saying it was acceptable for men to punch their wives.
The pink brochure, decorated with a rose on the cover and above it a white heart, called Marriage and Family Life has even caused outrage in Turkey with its archaic advise.
The claims made include:
- “[The woman] not to talk during sex, because it could lead their child developing a stutter”
- “Marry fertile, agreeable women, but they have to be virgins”
- “A woman who does not dress for her husband, who is not obedient to her husband being the head of the household, can be beaten”
The woman, too, should "remain quiet and apologise immediately when her husband is angry with her”.
The pamphlet goes on to actively recommend hitting the woman, saying that: “Sometimes one or two hits are quite useful, since it acts like medicine.”
It also adds that striking the woman also “reminds” her “who has the say in the house”.
Other recommendations advise that if the woman is “grumpy” the husband should not immediately file for divorce, so as not to “doom another man” but he should marry a second wife.
The brochure actively encourages polygamy as it, supposedly, “creates competition”.
On top of it condoning domestic violence it goes on to say that the woman should not do “professional work” but instead stay at home.
The author of the brochure Hasan Caliskan, a former employee of the Office of Religious Affairs called Diyanet, has sparked a backlash from both the government and the opposition.
The leaflet has been published in the city of Kütahya which is 250 kilometres south-east of Istanbul, with a population of around 200,000 people and governed by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the party headed by the country’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The opposition party the social democratic CHP - the Republican People’s Party, has raised the issue in parliament during a debate on the budget.

Τίποτε ρε συ. Πως σου πέρασε από το μυαλό κάτι τέτοιο; Για παράδειγμα προς μίμηση το ανέφερα.
Ιδιαίτερα εκείνο που αναφέρει περί ανταγωνισμού... σατανικά έξυπνο. Είναι γκρινιάρα; Δεν σου κάθεται; Δεν την χωρίζεις (για να μη κάνεις άλλον άνδρα δυστυχισμένο) αλλά παντρεύεσαι μια που δεν έχει "χαλάσει" ακόμη. Και η γκρινιάρα διορθώνεται και η καλή σου μένει!
