«Οταν χίλιοι άνθρωποι πιστεύουν μια φτιαχτή ιστορία για ένα μήνα, τότε έχουμε fake news. Οταν ένα δισεκατομμύριο άνθρωποι την πιστεύουν για χίλια χρόνια, τότε έχουμε θρησκεία». Ο Ισραηλινός διανοητής Γιουβάλ Χαράρι πιστεύει στη δύναμη των μύθων. Από την Εποχή του Λίθου, έγραψε, οι άνθρωποι φτιάχνουν ιστορίες.

Αυτό έχει μια ευεργετική συνέπεια. «Είμαστε το μοναδικό θηλαστικό που μπορεί να συνεργάζεται με πολυάριθμους ξένους επειδή μόνο εμείς μπορούμε να επινοούμε φανταστικές ιστορίες, να τις διαδίδουμε και να πείθουμε εκατομμύρια άλλους να τις πιστέψουν. Εφόσον όλοι πιστεύουν τα ίδια φανταστικά πράγματα, υπακούμε όλοι τους ίδιους νόμους κι έτσι συνεργαζόμαστε αποτελεσματικά» («21 μαθήματα για τον 21ο αιώνα», εκδ. Αλεξάνδρεια»).

Οι μύθοι όμως έχουν και μια σκοτεινή πτυχή. Μπορούν να δημιουργήσουν δυσανεξία, διώξεις ακόμη και γενοκτονίες. Το μεγαλύτερο έγκλημα στην ιστορία, το Ολοκαύτωμα, είχε στη βάση του αντισημιτικούς μύθους που επέζησαν χιλιάδες χρόνια και ανεμπόδιστοι μεταλλάσσονταν επί τα χείρω. Σε αντίθεση με τους παλιούς πολέμους και με ό,τι συμβαίνει στη φύση οι σύγχρονες συγκρούσεις δεν γίνονται για τροφή, ή εδάφη, λέει ο Χαράρι. «Οι άνθρωποι πλέον πολεμούν για τις φανταστικές ιστορίες που έχουν στο μυαλό τους». Σε πολλές συνεντεύξεις του φέρνει ως παράδειγμα την πόλη της Ιερουσαλήμ και ειδικότερα το Ορος του Ναού, όπου υπάρχει ο «Λίθος», στον οποίο κατά την εβραϊκή παράδοση έγινε η Θυσία του Αβραάμ, και κατά την ισλαμική είναι ο βράχος από τον οποίο ο Μωάμεθ αναλήφθηκε στον ουρανό. Χιλιάδες άνθρωποι είναι διατεθειμένοι να πεθάνουν για μια (φορτωμένη με μύθους) πέτρα.

Με αυτό το σκεπτικό σήμερα, μέσα στο Ισραήλ συγκρούονται δύο αφηγήματα. Το ένα είναι κοσμικό και φτιάχτηκε από εκείνους που διώχτηκαν από την Ευρώπη, ιδιαιτέρως την περίοδο της ναζιστικής θηριωδίας. Είναι πατριώτες αλλά δεν θεωρούν τη γη τους ιερή. Δεν θα φύγουν –πού να πάνε;– αλλά θα την μοιραστούν έναντι ειρήνης με τους Αραβες. Οι νιόφερτοι από τις πρώην κομμουνιστικές χώρες είναι κατά κανόνα θρησκόληπτοι. Θέλουν καθαρό το «Ισραήλ από τον ποταμό ώς τη θάλασσα». Δεν θα διστάσουν δε να χρησιμοποιήσουν τις μεθόδους των διωκτών τους, όπως έδειξε το πογκρόμ κατά των Παλαιστινίων από Εβραίους εποίκους στη Δυτική Οχθη την περασμένη Πέμπτη (15.8.2024).

«Αυτό που φοβάμαι περισσότερο», είπε ο Χαράρι σε μια συνέντευξή του (Skynews 26.2.2024), «είναι ποιος θα κερδίσει τη μάχη για την ψυχή του έθνους, που γίνεται μεταξύ ισραηλινού πατριωτισμού και εβραϊκής υπεροχής». Δυστυχώς –και με την αμέριστη βοήθεια της Χαμάς– οι δεύτεροι προς το παρόν κερδίζουν.

The recent decision by the Israeli Police to ban Christian worshippers from participating in the sacred services of the Feast of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, citing the absence of requisite government approvals and licenses, has led to the regrettable closure of this holy site to thousands of faithful congregants.

This decision, reminiscent of last year’s similarly timed disruption, has left the Patriarchate of Jerusalem with little recourse. The recurrent Israeli portrayal of Christian prayers and religious ceremonies as private events necessitating security measures—an approach distinctly detached from the spiritual essence of these occasions—serves as a persistent excuse to impede Christians from exercising their faith. Such actions dismiss the integral role of Christians within the societal fabric, imposing undue restrictions rather than fulfilling the state’s duty to facilitate the practice of religious practices.

This regrettable stance is not isolated; comparable obstructions have also marred other sacred events, including Saturday of the Holy Light in Jerusalem. It is incumbent upon the Israeli authorities to uphold the inviolable rights of freedom of worship, access to holy sites, and the unimpeded performance of religious ceremonies—rights that are both inherent and guaranteed by international law to the indigenous Christian community in the holy land.

In anticipation of avoiding a repetition of last year’s events during the Feast of the Transfiguration, the Patriarchate had proactively communicated with the Israeli Minister of Interior over a month ago. However, the police’s decision has unexpectedly thwarted the natural right of believers to worship. The Patriarchate earnestly hopes that Israeli authorities will reassess their stance towards non-Jewish religious practices, affirm the fundamental rights of Christians, and resist yielding to dominating radical tendencies.

Israel has agreed to a series of “humanitarian pauses” in Gaza to allow for the vaccination of children against polio, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said.

The campaign will aim to vaccinate around 640,000 children across the Gaza strip and will begin on Sunday, senior WHO official Rik Peeperkorn said.
It will be rolled out in three separate stages, across the central, southern and northern parts of the strip. During each stage, fighting will pause for three consecutive days between 06:00 and 15:00 local time.

The agreement comes days after UN officials said a 10-month-old baby had been partially paralysed after contracting Gaza’s first case of polio for 25 years.
Around 1.26m doses of the novel oral polio vaccine type 2 (nOPV2) are already in Gaza, with 400,000 additional doses set to arrive soon.
The vaccinations will be carried out by UN staff and other local health workers. Over 2,000 health and community outreach personnel have been trained to administer the vaccine.

Louise Wateridge, a UN spokeswoman in Gaza, has called for a ceasefire to allow the vaccination programme to run safely.
"We cannot vaccinate children under a sky full of bombs and strikes, we cannot vaccinate children who are fleeing for their lives," she told Radio 4's Today programme on Friday.

"Any military operations during the time we are trying to roll out a vaccination campaign will affect our ability to deliver these vaccinations to children," she explained.

Ms Wateridge said children will receive two oral doses this week, and will need a repeat vaccination four weeks later.

Poliovirus is highly infectious and is most often spread through sewage and contaminated water.

It can cause disfigurement and paralysis, and is potentially fatal. It mainly affects children under the age of five.
The WHO says immunisation rates in Gaza and the occupied West Bank were optimal before the conflict. Polio vaccine coverage was estimated at 99% in 2022, although it had declined to 89% last year, according to the latest data.

The Israeli military said in July it had begun vaccinating its soldiers against the disease.
Hamas official Basem Naim told the Reuters news agency: "We are ready to cooperate with international organisations to secure this campaign, serving and protecting more than 650,000 Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the series of three-day pauses were "not a ceasefire".
James Kariuki, UK deputy permanent representative to the UN, said he "strongly" welcomed the vaccination plan.
"We now need to see this in action and these pauses need to be long enough to deliver the 90% coverage required. When the campaign starts and thousands of vulnerable and unaccompanied children gather at vaccination sites, they must all be protected," he added.
Prof Hagai Levine, a spokesman for the Hostages Families Forum - a group which is calling for more action to secure the release of Israeli hostages - urged health workers to ensure those still being held are included in the vaccination campaign.

Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on 7 October by Hamas, during which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken hostage.
More than 40,530 people have been killed in Gaza since 7 October, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.

Στην αρχη που το ακουσα αφηρημενος, καταλανα "βηματοδότες". Μα πόσοι να φορανε βηματοδότες στο Λίβανο;


Απο τι ειναι φτιαγμένοι οι βομβητές και έσκασαν έτσι;
Μια μικρούλα μπαταρια θα εχουν μονο. Μήπως ειχαν και καμια ταινια εκρηκτικού;

Παντως θα σάρταραν οι αλαχουαχμπάρηδες, δεν ξερουν απο που θα τους ερθει, θα καταργήσουν και τα ξυπνητήρια σε λίγο
