New NGK Racing Series season gets underway this weekend
Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche head up GT field
Honda versus Renault in the UAE Touring Cars class
The 2014-2015 NGK Racing Series kicks off this weekend at Yas Marina Circuit with an impressive line-up of cars including a couple of Ferraris, a McLaren and a Porsche set to do battle in the season opener.

The NGK Series is a multi-category series consisting of UAE Touring Cars, Clio Cup and GT category cars.

Dragon Racing are making their presence felt with a trio of cars to spearhead their campaign with team owner Leon Price at the wheel of a McLaren GT3, Fred Fatien in a Ferrari 458 Italia and Gautam Singhania in the cockpit of the Ferrari 458 Italia Challenge. Intending to spoil the Dragon Racing party on the day is Bashar Mandini in a Porsche 997 Cup.

Multiple UAE champion Costas Papantonis heads up the UAE Touring Car contingent in his Class 1 Gulf Petrochem SEAT Leon Super Copa.

Class 2 sees a pair of Honda Civics, in the hands of Abdulhamid Al Awadhi and Alqassim Hamidaddin, facing a concerted challenge from the Renault Clio Cup brigade headed by brothers Alexandros and Constantino Annivas in Gulf Petrochem colours along with AUH Motorsport run Thomas Sorensen and privateer Peter England. The Renault quartet will also be battling out for top honours in the race-within-a-race Clio Cup series.

Qualifying for the NGK Racing Series takes place at 9.40am on Friday, with the first of two sprint races scheduled for 11.05am. Also on the bill are races for the Radical Middle East Cup and testing for FG1000.

Richa Mergulhao, DAMC Track & Competition Executive said: “A quality field will take to the track at Yas Marina on Friday, with some interesting prospects in both the GT and Touring Car categories.”

“Kick starting the season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix venue is prestigious for teams and drivers, setting the right tone for a successful season of racing.”
