Aktiebolaget Volvo is a Swedish multinational manufacturing company headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. Its principal activity is the production, distribution and sale of trucks, buses, and construction equipment. Volvo also supplies marine and industrial drive systems, and provides financial services. Although Volvo was established in 1915 as a subsidiary of AB SKF, a Swedish ball bearing manufacturer, the auto manufacturer considers itself officially founded on 14 April 1927, when the first car, the Volvo ÖV 4 series, affectionately known as "Jakob", rolled out of the factory in Hisingen, Gothenburg.[2]

In 1999, Volvo sold its car division Volvo Cars to Ford Motor Company for $6.45 billion. The Volvo trademark was shared between AB Volvo, where it is used on heavy vehicles, and the unit of Ford, where it was used on cars. Volvo stopped posting profits in 2005,[vague] and in 2008, Ford decided to sell its interest in Volvo Cars.

In August 2010, Ford completed its sale of Volvo Cars to the Chinese motor manufacturer Geely Automobile (Zhejiang Geely Holding Group) for $1.8 billion.[5][6]

Και μιας και επιασες το ονομα κτλ κατι που εμαθα προσφατα....ο κυκλος με το βελακι στο σημα ειναι το αρχαιο χημικο συμβολο του σιδηρου (αυτο το ηξερα), η διαγωνια γραμμη ομως, αρχικα υπηρχε απο αναγκαιοτητα για να κραταει το iron mark στη θεση του, και αργοτερα εμεινε στη μασκα ως διακοσμητικο στοιχειο.
Το επισης κορυφαιο ειναι οτι εχουν δικη τους γραμματοσειρα (VolvoBroad την οποια χρησιμοποιουν σε οτιδηποτε εντυπο, αλλα και σε ολους τους χαρακτηρες στο αυτοκινητο (πινακα οργανων, κουμπια)

Επισης το ονομα δεν ανηκει 100% στους Κινεζους (ουτε στη Ford παλαιοτερα) αλλα σε μια holding την Volvo Trademark Holding AB με 50-50 μετοχους την AB Volvo και τους Κινεζους....κι αυτο το εμαθα προσφατα

Volvo Cars reveals 450 horsepower High Performance Drive-E Powertrain Concept

Today, Volvo revealed a Triple Boost technology that takes Volvo’s four-cylinder Drive-E Powertrain petrol engine to 450 BHP. This is further evidence of Volvo’s commitment to delivering driving pleasure through down-sizing. The concept also gives us a glimpse into what may be in the pipeline for future Polestar models based on the Drive-E platform.

Volvo delivers a unique combination of performance and efficiency with the High Performance Drive-E Powertrain Concept – a triple boost 2-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with no less than 450 hp.

Following the successful introduction of Volvo’s Drive-E Powertrain range in 2013, Volvo’s powertrain team once again demonstrates its technological leadership in emission-reducing turbo technology.

“When we launched the Drive-E powertrain family, our aim was to deliver the most advanced 4-cylinder engines in the industry based on emissions and fuel consumption relative to performance and drivability. We knew that 320 hp in our petrol configuration was just a starting point. The 450 hp High Performance Drive-E Powertrain Concept, demonstrates this ambition and the versatility of the Drive-E Powertrains,” says Dr. Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President for Research and Development at Volvo Car Group.

The 450 hp High Performance Drive-E Powertrain Concept is based on a set of technologies not usually found in a four cylinder engine. The engine utilizes two parallel turbochargers, which are fed by an electrically powered turbo-compressor. The compressed air from this unit, rather than being fed to the cylinders, is instead used to spool up the two parallel turbochargers. Fuel is fed by a dual fuel pump working at 250 bar pressure. With this kind of power density, this triple boost installation and unique fuel system, enables a very dynamic drivability without any turbo lag, compared to a mono-turbo.

“There are several high power small size applications where one large turbo is used to create a high level of power available from other manufacturers, but the driving experience suffers due to slow engine response. We felt that with our heritage of being among the first car companies to embrace and offer a broad range of turbo technology since 1981, that we could improve this,” says Michael Fleiss, Vice President of Powertrain Engineering at Volvo Car Group.

The High Performance Drive-E Powertrain Concept attracted the attention and involvement of Volvo Cars suppliers AVL, Denso and Volvo Polestar Racing at an early stage, which allowed theories and technologies from racing applications to be infused in the development process.

“This was a very exciting project as we pioneered a combination of technologies in the same application, and the result is a quite unique engine with its high power yet quick response. Above all, its compact size improves weight distribution between the front and rear axle and lowers the center of gravity – two factors that have a significant effect on the handling, whether it is a race car or a street car,” said Mattias Evensson, Race Engine Director at Volvo Polestar Racing.

“It may sound odd, but this 450 hp powertrain concept is an important part of the Drive-E development program. Down-sizing must offer customers attractive and usable power for broad scale emissions reduction to work. Compact powertrains free up space and weight in the structure of the car, which can be used for electrification and even further emissions reduction. And that is our ultimate ambition,” concludes Dr. Mertens.

Και μετα λέμε γιατι πουλάει το vAG...

Μια βοήθεια αν ξέρεις κανείς. Σήμερα το απόγευμα μετά την δουλειά το V40 όταν το έσβησα το βεντιλατέρ συνέχισε να δουλεύει, είναι φυσιολογικό αυτό; Άνοιξα καπάκι το κοπάνησα λίγο από πίσω και σταμάτησε. Diesel 1,6 βαριά να έχει 20Κ χλμ. Δεν το ξαναέκανε όταν το ξανα έβαλα μπρος. Να ανησυχώ;

Για καλοκαίρι είναι φυσιολογικό και επιθυμητό. Για χειμώνα , δεν μπορώ να φανταστώ πως τα κατάφερες. Ήσουν μποτιλιαρισμένος ώρες;

5 χιλιόμετρα έκανα, όση ώρα κάνω πάντα χωρίς ιδιαίτερο μποτιλιάρισμα.

Πήρα τηλέφωνο έναν φίλο μηχανικό, έψαξα και στο νετ και τελικά λένε όλοι πως είναι το DPF. Στα diesel με το φίλτρο κατά την διαδικασία ανανέωσης ανεβάζει θερμοκρασία και αν διακόψεις την λειτουργία του κινητήρα τα βεντιλατέρ συνεχίζουν να λειτουργούν για να μην γίνουν όλα μέσα λιώμα.
Μέχρι και 15 λεπτά μετά το κλείσιμο λέει ένας τύπος σε ένα ξένο φόρουμ!

Τώρα είμαι στο σέρβις για ένα v40 diesel το οποίο από προχθές το κάνει αυτό και απ ότι μου πε ο τεχνικός είναι φυσιολογικό. Επίσης η απόσταση που έκανε ήταν μια ευθεία με κατηφορικη κλίση μάλιστα ούτε 5χλμ.

Τι αποψη εχουμε για V40 με τον diesel κινητηρα;
Τι παιζει με τον κινητηρα; ειναι παλιος, συγχρονος, γρηγορος, αργος, οικονομικος;
Τι παιζει με το αυτοκινητο;

Πειτε οτι ξερετε να μαθουμε και εμεις. (τα παντα ευπροσδεκτα, καποιο ιδιαιτερο στον εξοπλισμο του πχ)

Άψογο σε όλους τους τομείς. Ο κινητήρας δεν είναι αργός αλλά ούτε και γρήγορος είναι όμως κάτι παραπάνω από ικανοποιητικός και εννοείται οικονομικότατος. Αν δε κάνω λάθος είναι το μοναδικό 1.6d που δεν πληρώνει τέλη, έχει χαμηλούς ρύπους.
Ποιοτικά επίσης είναι πολύ καλό και αρκετά ήσυχο αν και αρχικά νόμιζα ότι ακούγεται αρκετά μέσα (ήταν λίγο ανοικτό το πίσω παράθυρο ). Οδηγικά δεν το χω πιέσει αλλά είναι πολύ καλοστημένο, ήταν μάλιστα το cross country οπότε φαντάζομαι το άλλο θα πατάει ακόμα καλύτερα. Από εξοπλισμό δεν ξέρω τι είναι έξτρα και τι όχι έχει πάντως start/stop engine, φρενάρει αν πας να πέσεις στο μπροστινό όταν έχεις το πολύ κάπου στα 50χλμ, έχει παντού αερόσακους (νομίζω και πεζών), στις ανηφόρες όταν πας να ξεκινήσεις φρενάρει μόνο του και δεν τσουλάς κατά πίσω, το τιμόνι είναι ηλεκτρουδραυλικό και είναι αυτοματοποιημένο όσον αφορά τα φώτα και τους υαλοκαθαριστήρες.
Από σέρβις μιας και δεν μπορούσε ο ιδιοκτήτης το πήγα εγώ τις προάλλες σε επίσημη αντιπροσωπία. Ήταν το 2ο των 40.000χλμ όπου αλλάχτηκαν λάδια, φίλτρα αέρος, καμπίνας, ροδέλα κάρτερ και αναβάθμιση λογισμικού. Όλα αυτά 175€ συν έξτρα άλλα 50€ φίλτρο πετρελαίου λόγω του ''γαμάτου'' πετρελαίου που έχουν τα βενζινάδικά μας.
