Ferrari has split with its technical director James Allison, following weeks of speculation about his future.
The Briton's place at the team had been in doubt after a disappointing start to the campaign, but the team had previously insisted that the talk were just rumours.
However, on Wednesday, it announced that Allison's time at the outfit was coming to an end. His contract ran until the end of 2017.
In a short statement, it was made clear that Allison and the team had agreed with mutual consent to end their working relationship early.
Team principal Maurizio Arrivabene said: “The team would like to thank James for his commitment and sacrifice during the time spent together, and wishes him success and serenity for his future endeavours."
Allison himself added: “During the years I spent at Ferrari, at two different stages and covering different roles, I could get to know and appreciate the value of the team and of the people, women and men, which are part of it.
"I want to thank them all for the great professional and human experience we shared. I wish everybody a happy future with lots of success."
As well as the on-track struggles, Allison has faced personal tragedy this year with the death of his wife immediately after the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
That has left him wanting to spend more time back in the United Kingdom to be near his children, and it had previously been suggested that he was eager for a full-time return to Britain as soon as possible.
His talents will make him an obvious target for a number of teams, and the chief contender to land him could be Renault – where Allison most recently worked prior to his time at Ferrari.
Binotto replaces Allison
Allison will be replaced with Mattia Binotto, who will take on the role of Chief Technical Officer at Scuderia Ferrari after moving across from the engine department.
Binotto originally joined Ferrari in 1995, originally as a test engine engineer – and then performed a similar role for the race team from 1997 to 2003.
After a spell as a race engine engineer, and chief engineer, he became head of engine and KERS in 2009 – before stepping up to chief operating officer of the power unit at the end of 2014.

Max Verstappen: Ayrton Senna would have liked my defence

In Germany the pace was okay, but the Safety Car hurt us. I had to let Lewis through in the last stint – he lost out even more with the Safety Car. He wasn’t able to get past me, but in the end they asked me to let him go. And that stage it was quite clear that Lewis had more points, so I had to support him. It was the first time that they asked me to move over.
Manor has officially announced it will be giving Esteban Ocon his Formula 1 debut, the Frenchman drafted in to replace Indonesia's Rio Haryanto.
Haryanto's original deal with the team ran for the first 11 grands prix of the 2016 season – and while he was retained one race past the original end date, he will not get to see out the season with the team after all.
Instead, European F3 and GP3 champion Ocon, who currently serves as Renault's reserve driver and is also part of Mercedes' driver development programme, will step into the role for the remaining nine races of the season.
"We are very pleased to welcome Esteban to Manor Racing for the remainder of the season," said Manor Racing boss Dave Ryan.
"Our team has made significant strides in 2016, including finishing in the points for the first time in Austria last month. We need to maintain our pace of development in order to achieve our ambitions, not only for this season but also for the longer-term, so the calibre of a replacement is key.
"We’re confident that when Esteban makes his Grand Prix debut in Spa, we will have a very potent line-up with which to take the fight to our immediate competitors for the rest of the season.”
Ocon had begun the season racing for Mercedes in the DTM, replacing outgoing series champion Pascal Wehrlein, who the Frenchman will now partner at Manor.
The rest of the DTM 2016 calendar does not clash with F1, but Ocon - reportedly a candidate for a Renault seat for 2017 - has previously expressed his desire to fully focus on grand prix racing should he get his debut.
"I’m thrilled that I’ll be making my Grand Prix debut with Manor Racing later this month, and at Spa, of all circuits, which is the next best thing to my home race," Ocon said.
"I’m ready for this exciting step up, thanks to the experience I’ve gained as a Formula 1 Reserve Driver this season. I’d like to thank Renault Sport F1 Team and Mercedes-Benz for working together to make this happen, and to Manor Racing for the opportunity, which I’m going to grab with both hands."
